Berlin Live, Work, Play

A Great Place to Live, Work & Play

LIFE IN BERLIN

People love living in Berlin.

Downtown Berlin is relaxed, diverse, helpful, clean, friendly, safe, caring, beautiful and vibrant. A place where you feel comfortable and welcome. A place where you can chat with the mayor on the porch of the Atlantic Hotel and let your children ride their bikes without worrying. A place where both residents and businesses warmly welcomes everyone, embracing diversity in race, religion, and sexual orientation.

We have wonderful schools, a new beautiful public library, a great local hospital and health care, shopping close to home, unlimited personal growth opportunities, fun recreational activities for all, parks, playgrounds, and best of all, the true feeling of a close knit “like family” community.

People love living in a vibrant downtown where there’s always something going on.

Downtown Berlin prides itself on being a walkable/bikeable community.

Those who live here have access to public bus transportation, but everything is so close, you can walk or bike to the local grocery stores, banks, pharmacy, healthcare professionals, farmers market, butcher shop, yoga studios, salons and more.

We are also only 7 miles to Assateague Beach and Ocean City and 20 miles to the nearest major airport in Salisbury..

Our downtown Main Street District is ADA Compliant with centralized free parking.

WORK IN BERLIN

Most of the business owners and their employees live in town, too. Since we started following the Main Street approach, the popularity of the Town has grown.

Millennials, who went to college elsewhere, are now returning to open their own businesses. This was not the case twenty years ago.

Our shops are very pet friendly. Many shop owners even bring their dogs to work every day, leave water, and treats out for visiting pups.

Each business complements the other and help promote each other.

Being so close to the coast, we have become a tourist destination and hospitality plays a large role in our economy. The healthcare industry thrives here as well. Berlin is home to Atlantic General Hospital and the Jack Burbage Cancer Center.

Since becoming a Main Street Community there has been $6,306,045 private dollars invested in our downtown. The Town of Berlin prides itself in it’s downtown and has invested $1,331,448 to keep our town thriving.

We have added 655 jobs and 145 new businesses have opened since becoming a main Street community.

In our downtown area alone there are approximately 2,000 employees. This does not include the hospital or doctor’s offices within a 2 mile radius.

One of the incentives we offer to our downtown businesses is a Façade Improvement Matching Grant. The grant offers the business and/or property owner 50% of what they spend on the improvement of their facades for up to $10,000. Nearly every building downtown has taken advantage of this grant and what a difference it has made. There are also a variety of other tax incentives and loan programs offered through the county and state.
